Fairfield residents who moved, built or bought a new home in the past year could miss out on nearly $200 if they miss the July 1 deadline to claim the Homestead Credit Exemption, said Jefferson County Assessor Sheri Blough.
Homeowners should check their property tax receipts to make sure they are receiving the Homestead Credit Exemption, said Blough.
?The state now pays 100 percent, so this year it will be $197 and I have a drawer full of applications that are not signed,? she said.
?Check your tax receipt first, then call our office or come in to apply for the Homestead Credit,? Blough said. ?It has to be done by July 1.?
The county assessor?s office is on the third floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse, open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The assessor?s phone number is 472-2849.
