Statehouse roundup: Jeff Shipley unseats Joe Mitchell; Heather Hora wins in a landslide

State House District 87
In a race that pitted two Republican incumbents who ended up in the same redrawn district, Jeff Shipley unseated Joe Mitchell 1,605 to 1,319 votes.
District 87 includes Henry, Jefferson and Van Buren counties.
Shipley will face Democrat Mike Heaton in the general election on Nov. 8.
State House District 92
Republican Heather Hora won the Tuesday primary in a 1,495-840 vote against Jaron Rosien, with results from both Washington County and parts of Johnson counties.
State House District 88
In the House District 88 Republican primary, Helena J. Hayes defeated Dustin D. Hite. Hayes garnered 1,961 votes (57 percent) to Hite’s 1,453 (43 percent).
District 88 covers the northern half of Jefferson County that is not in District 87, plus all of Keokuk County and slightly more than half of Mahaska County, including Oskaloosa.
