WASHINGTON - A house at 202 McCreedy Drive in Washington was fully engulfed in flames when the fire was reported to the Washington Fire Department Sunday night.
Upon receiving the call at 7:16 p.m. on Nov. 2, seven agencies from Washington and two neighboring towns responded to the fire. The caller indicated that flames were coming out of the windows of the home, and that windows were shattering. The caller did not know if anyone was inside.
Firefighters rushed to put out the blaze, and discovered flames showing through the window on the south side of the house. The fire was put out shortly after the firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
According to Washington Fire Chief Brendan DeLong, the house suffered significant damage, and the cause of the fire is believed to be an overheated extension cord.
The Washington Fire Department was assisted by Ainsworth and Kalona Fire, Washington County Ambulance, Washington Police Police, Washington County EMA, and the Washington County Communications Center.
