Huge crowd turns out for Jefferson County Extension’s Trunk or Treat

Over 2,000 people attended the 2024 Trunk or Treat at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairfield on Friday, Oct. 18. Numerous businesses, organizations, and volunteers also assisted with the event.

Trunk or Treat participants were able to travel around the grounds to each trunk and table to get candy, books, and more. 4-H members assisted with games in the Show Arena, a photo booth was available, and Extension staff and 4-H volunteers handed out free bags of popcorn.

For the second year in a row, all of the trunks and tables were judged and then awarded for the best in each category. The winner’s were: Best 4-H or FFA display - Packwood Trojans 4-H Club; Best Table - Smithburg Automotive; and Best Trunk - Cranston Family Funeral Home.

Extension staff would like to thank the Extension and 4-H volunteers who helped with set-up, clean-up, and bagging and passing out popcorn. Special thanks to the Jefferson County Fair Board for the use of the grounds for this event and assistance with set-up and clean-up.

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office in Jefferson County would like to thank the 45 businesses and organizations who set up a trunk at this year’s event. Those who set up trunks this year include: 4-Leaf Clover Kids, Addington Place, Aeron, All American Pest Control, Axis Vision Care, Behner Funeral Home, Bodhi's Hollow Grooming, BTS Sanitation, Cambridge Little Achievers, Community 1st Credit Union, Cranston Family Funeral Home, Des Moines Ramblers 4-H Club, Everybody's, Fairfield Community School District, Fairfield Kiwanis, Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield Youth Performing Arts, Farm Bureau Women, First MainStreet Insurance, Girl Scouts Troop, Hy-Vee Floral, Jefferson County Ambulance, Jefferson County Fair Board, Jefferson County Health Center, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Leading Hands 4-H Club, McDonald's, Nurturing Families CPPC, Optimae Life Services, Packwood Trojans 4-H Club, Parkview Care Center, Picture Perfect Salon and Spa, Prestige Care Center, Schaus Vorhies, Scooters, ServPro, Sinclair, Smithburg Automotive, St. Mary's Preschool, Sweet 'n Saucy BBQ, Walmart, Walnut Ridge Workers 4-H Club and Lockridge Clover Kids, Washington State Bank, and Webb Septic Services.
