MT. PLEASANT — Upcoming roadwork will limit traffic on part of Highway 218 in Henry County, starting early next week and lasting through sometime in November, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
The construction will limit traffic to two lanes, down from four on the highway between 300th Street and 325th Street, east of Salem. There, crews plan to reconstruct a pair of bridges over branches of Fish Creek in the northbound lanes, diverting all traffic to the southbound side of the road.
The DOT, “reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones,” the agency said in a press release. “As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.”
The partial closure begins Monday, April 7 at 7 a.m., and will last until “late November, weather permitting,” according to the press release. Officials said the project would be coordinated through the Iowa DOT’s Fairfield Construction Office.
