Hy-Vee to donate $500,000 toward Indian Hills improvements
Nov. 8, 2021 1:18 pm
Hy-Vee, Inc. today announces it will donate $500,000 to help fund enhancements to Indian Hills Community College campuses in Ottumwa and Centerville following a successful bond referendum vote by the community on Nov. 2.
Indian Hills Community College gives Hy-Vee employees at the company’s Chariton Distribution Center the opportunity to attend training, take classes and advance their careers while staying close to home. Hy-Vee employees have received CDL training, taken leadership and management courses, as well as English language learning courses and workplace Spanish courses to assist all Hy-Vee employees in communicating better.
Hy-Vee’s Chariton facility is currently offering an apprenticeship for Indian Hills Community College students in diesel mechanic courses, with plans to add additional internships and apprenticeships in the future.
“Indian Hills Community College has been a strong partner for Hy-Vee over the past several years and we’re happy to support these campus improvements,” said Matt Ludwig, executive vice president of supply chain for Hy-Vee. “Many of the college’s graduates stay in the area, and that’s very important to us, as our future growth depends on having a skilled local workforce with access to education and training opportunities.”
Along with the $500,000 donated by Hy-Vee, Indian Hills Community College will receive funding collected through the bond referendum as well as other private donors to expand and improve its campuses.
