Icy conditions contribute to two vehicle accidents

The Henry County Sheriff?s Office recently investigated two single-vehicle accidents and one multiple-vehicle collision.
Icy conditions were partially blamed for a single-vehicle accident Jan. 16 in the 2200 grid of 220th Street. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2009 Nissan, owned and operated by Russell Moehle, Mediapolis, was traveling east on 220th Street when Moehle lost control while crossing a bridge.
No injuries were reported and damages were estimated at $1,500.
Deputies responded to a multiple-vehicle accident Jan. 16 in the 2200 grid of 220th Street.
According to the accident report, it was determined that due to the icy road conditions, a van operated by Eric Erlewine, New London, was traveling west on 220th Street and was unable to make it across the bridge, striking a guardrail and becoming stuck in the roadway, resulting in three other vehicles colliding and also becoming stuck along the roadway of the bridge.
No injuries were reported and total damages were estimated at $2,000. Breuer?s Towing Service and Henry County Secondary Roads Department workers responded to assist in removing the vehicles from the bridge.
A vehicle-deer accident occurred Jan. 14 when Joshua Dalbey, Libertyville, reported hitting a deer while driving on Highway 34 west of Rome. Damage was estimated at $3,000 to the Toyota SUV Dalbey was driving.
