Officials have opened an investigation after a fire broke out at 915 West Washington St., in Mt. Pleasant, around 10 p.m., on Monday evening.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was called to the former Iris Restaurant building on Monday night after reports of a fire. According to Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief, Stewart Kinney, the fire looks to be intentionally set, but such a conclusion has not yet been officially reached.
?There?s not much more I can say at this time. It?s being investigated,? said Kinney when asked for further comment. ?No one was injured or inside the building.?
According to reports, 18 firefighters were on scene for about an hour to put out the fire. The damage to the building was reported as minor.
The Iowa State Fire Marshal, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
