Iowa has more than 11,000 COVID-19 cases

Iowa saw 655 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the state total up to 11,059.

The state also saw another 12 additional deaths, bringing the total number of deaths due to the virus to 231.

Locally, Washington and Henry Counties saw two additional cases each bringing the counties' totals to 154 and 42 respectively. Jefferson County remains at six total cases.

On Wednesday, Gov. Kim Reynolds released a revised order that loosen some restrictions for the 22 counties starting on Friday that were not included in her original proclamation loosening restrictions for 77 of Iowa's 99 counties on May 1.

The revised order allows dentist offices, campgrounds and malls and retail stores to open with some restrictions. Reynolds said dentists may continue to provide services. Campgrounds, drive-in movie theaters, tanning facilities and medical spas may also reopen with some restrictions.

The order also says that malls and retail stores may reopen at half capacity as long as the businesses follow social-distancing guidelines. Fitness centers may also reopen by appointment only.

When asked by a reporter at her Thursday news conference if she was concerned some counties may be reopening too early, Reynolds said that Iowans and businesses will have to decide their own comfort levels in reopening or visiting businesses.

'If you don't feel comfortable going to these establishments, then don't go,” Reynolds said.

The 22 counties affected by the order revisions are Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Dallas, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Henry, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Linn, Louisa, Marshall, Muscatine, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Tama, Washington and Woodbury counties.

66,427 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19 so far. according to Iowa Department of Public Health data. That equates to 1 in 46 Iowans have been tested IDPH data says.
