Iowa now has more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases

The state of Iowa now has more than 3,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
In her Monday news conference, Gov. Kim Reynolds said the state had 257 new cases on Monday, for the second-largest daily increase so far, and brought the state total to 3,159 cases. Sunday's 389 cases was the biggest jump so far.
Locally, Washington County saw three new cases, bringing the county total up to 123. Jefferson County confirmed two new cases, bringing the county total up to six. Henry County saw no new cases on Monday.
Across the state, there were four additional deaths on Monday according to the Iowa Department of Public Health's website. Two individuals died in Linn County, one being an elderly adult and the other was middle-aged. Black Hawk County had one middle-aged adult die due to COVID-19 and Mahaska County also had a middle-aged adult die. The total number deaths in Iowa as of Monday is 79.
Louisa County, which borders Washington and Henry Counties to the east, now has 216 positive COVID-19 cases, the fifth-highest in the county. The majority of the cases are due to the outbreak at the Tyson Foods plant in Columbus Junction. Reynolds said that as of Monday, all workers at the plant have been tested for COVID-19.
Louisa County was the seventh in the country for the highest number of cases per capita according to the New York Times. With 216 positive cases in relation to the county's population of 11,000, that equates to 1,898 per 100,000 people.
