STANTON (AP) ? Authorities say a woman who leaped to her death off an Amtrak train in southwest Iowa was a French tourist.
The woman?s body was found near the tracks in Stanton on Monday night. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Montgomery County officials identified her as 31-year-old Stephanie Carine Hatt. Sheriff Joe Sampson says Hatt entered the United States last week.
Sampson says Hatt was described as nervous and jumpy on the train, and a conductor tried to calm her.
The sheriff says the woman suddenly got up, ran down an aisle, opened a door and jumped while the train was going nearly 80 miles an hour.
An autopsy was ordered.
