Iowa surpasses 14,000 total cases of COVID-19

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 374 new cases of COVID-19 across the state on Friday, bringing the new total to 14,049.
Additionally, the state saw 18 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the state due to COVID-19 to 336.
Locally, Washington County had no new cases on Friday, keeping the county total at 163. Henry and Jefferson counties saw one new case each, bringing the county totals to 44 and 10 respectively.
As of Friday, 93,556 Iowans have been tested for the virus or 1 out of 34 Iowans have been tested.
The new numbers come on the first day of loosened restrictions across the state as Gov. Kim Reynolds announced an updated proclamation, allowing restaurants and other businesses to reopen at 50% capacity.
Beginning on Friday restaurants, fitness centers and retail establishments across the state are allowed to open at 50% capacity according to Reynolds' proclamation.
According to the proclamation, salons, barbershops, massage and tattoo establishments are also allowed to open while following social-distancing guidelines. It also permits libraries, race tracks, tanning facilities. campgrounds, drive-in theaters and social and fraternal clubs to reopen. Salons and barbershops may operate on an appointment basis only.
The proclamation states that bars, theaters, casinos, amusements, museums, swimming pools, skating rinks and skate parks and playgrounds are to remain closed.
The proclamation also continues closures and public health measures, which limit social gatherings of more than 10 people until at least May 27.
