MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan class of 2022 celebrated graduation day over the weekend, gathering on campus one last time before getting their degrees.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for each of you to have made it here today, and I’m proud to share this moment with each of you,” Provost DeWayne Frazier said. “This does not happen by accident, it’s because of the students and the power of teaching that resonates on this campus.”
University President Christine Plunkett said graduates had every reason to be proud.
“I hope that over the coming months, years and decades, you will look back and realize that your years here were transformative,” she said. “You’ll be able to say that your time here allowed you to know yourself better, to understand the world better, experienced joys and challenges that shape who you are and form lifelong friendships … you’ve worked long and hard for your graduation credentials, and they represent an important level of understanding, knowledge and expertise in your discipline.”
Commencement Speaker Angela Sadler Williamson, said class members had big futures ahead of them.
“Our world needs legacy makers just like all of you,” she said. “Now more than ever, to help us heal and move forward.”
The school’s excitement was shared by its outgoing students.
“We made it,” said President’s Award Winner and graduating senior Karli Kirchner. “All the hard work, the late nights, the coffee runs, today makes everything worth it as we celebrate our hard work and accomplishments.”
