Iowa Wesleyan Homecoming will kick off Friday with an abundance of festivities.
The homecoming will be celebrated from Friday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 3.
Iowa Wesleyan Tigers from past and present will join together to honor the university over the three-day event.
The first celebration will begin at 4 p.m., Friday. It involves the members of the 50-year classes of 1970 and 1971. They will gather at the presidents’ house for a unique reception honoring their time spent at the university.
Homecoming will have its official kickoff with the Homecoming Kickoff BBQ at 5 p.m. on the campus grounds. Students and alumni are welcome to join.
Following the BBQ, at 6 p.m., the men’s and women’s alumni basketball games will take place in Ruble Arena. Alumni and coaches will participate in some friendly competitions and bragging rights.
Also, at 6 p.m. will be an alumni reception. Spectators or participants can enjoy time with friends during or after the games with complimentary snacks and beverages. It is located in the Tiger Suite above Ruble Arena. People welcome to stay throughout the evening.
The homecoming parade will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Howe Student Activity Center on Saturday. It will travel through the square and end its journey at Willis Wrestling Facility.
Following the parade, at 10:30 a.m., there will be a dedication at the Willis Wrestling Facility.
From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the campus facilities and buildings will have an open house.
There will be self-guided tours of Raymond Chadwick Library; Adam Trieschmann Hall of Science; Nemitz Suites; Sheaffer-Trieschmann Residence Hall; George B. McKibben Residence Hall; Old Gymnasium; Art Gallery in PEO Memorial Building; Howe Student Activity Center and Ruble Arena; Art Annex in Hershey Hall West; Old Main; University Chapel.
The Harlan-Lincoln House will be open for guided tours.
Prior to the football game, there will be a tailgate lunch at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at 11:30 a.m. The game begins at 1 p.m.
After the game, an alumni and friends choir reunion will occur at Old Main on the third floor. Anyone can participate.
At 6 p.m., Iowa Wesleyan University will present the 2021 Young Alumni and Distinguished Alumni Awards and induct two members into the Iowa Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame in the Social Hall of the Howe Student Activity Center. Appetizers and beverages will be available.
Sunday is the final day of homecoming.
At the University Chapel, the Rev. Randall Perry will lead the sermon. Perry is a 1970 graduate. The Iowa Wesleyan Choir will perform, and any alumni can join in.
Homecoming will cap off with a community brunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the social hall. Alumni and community members are welcome to attend.
For anyone planning to be inside campus buildings, face masks are required.
