“The Variety Show is produced by the IWU Music Department,” said Iowa Wesleyan Director of Choral Activities Blair Buffington. “It is a student-led production, the director is myself, and the show coordinator for the production is Delaney Van Ness. Delaney is an alum of the program, and has been the show coordinator for the last couple of years.”
The show this year is titled “Anything Goes”, and it is a variety show that is mostly musical acts with some comedy acts thrown in. “There will be some singing, play and dancing,” said Buffington.
The variety show is the largest fundraiser for the university’s music department. It helps fund the IWU Choir Spring Tour that takes place the first part of May.
“The acts in the show are from both the university and the community,” said Buffington. “The show will feature IWU ensembles like IW Choir, the IW Jazz Ensemble, and Uncle Wesley’s Muse, which is a backup band that the music faculty forms up for this particular event.”
IWU students will be involved in both the vocal and instrumental acts, and the Mt. Pleasant Chorale will be featured in the show as well. There are about 20 acts in total for the show.
“We just completed the audition process for this year’s show, said Buffington. “And I am truly excited about the lineup for the variety show this year. All of the acts that auditioned were extremely well prepared. This is going to be a tremendously fun show.”
Tickets for the event are $10, with $5 for students with ID. They are available from IWU Choir members and in advance at Brown’s Shoe Fit in Mt. Pleasant and at the door of the event. Masks are required.
