Iowa WINS to host speaker for Growing Hope Globally
Jul. 24, 2023 10:41 am
Iowa WINS, a commission of First Presbyterian Church, will host Fernanda Mariela Maldonado Villeda, a worker committed to greater food security for her native Honduras.
Ms. Maldonado Villeda will speak on Wednesday, July 26, at 6 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church (902 S Walnut St, Mount Pleasant).
Ms. Maldonado Villeda works with the Honduras Macuelizo Program, which promotes natural resource protection and implements conservation practices to improve agricultural production and mitigate the effect of climate change.
This program also promotes crop diversification to improve diet, nutrition and income. Local alliances are formed with a wide variety of groups that help to strengthen food chains, organize advocacy efforts that promote the rights of children, and reduce violence in the communities. Youth are encouraged to participate in activities that highlight the protection of the environment and natural resources.
The presentation on Wednesday is free and open to the public.
