WASHINGTON — The Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) starts for Washington students next week, running April 8-12 for kids at Lincoln, Washington Middle School and Washington High School.
While the tests don’t impact students’ grades, Superintendent Willie Stone said they were essential for guiding curriculum at the district, and determined the schools’ ratings among others in the state.
“We just ask that parents talk to their kids about it, it is important,” he said. “More so than anything, we just want to see where our kids are at. We want to see if we’re getting them better, and if we’re not, we want to figure out what’s going on.”
In addition to getting a full night’s sleep and healthy breakfast, schools have asked families to plan ahead for the week of tests.
A newsletter from Washington Middle School advised that students should gather earbuds and calculators, and fully charge their Chromebooks, the night before each day of testing.
