It’s time for fireworks
Sales tents pop up around Henry County; Mt. Pleasant reminds residents to be safe.

MT. PLEASANT — As Henry County gears up for Fourth of July weekend, fireworks tents continue to pop up around Mt. Pleasant.
Bellino Fireworks in Mt. Pleasant has had a successful year with fireworks.
With sales increasing daily they aren’t too worried about the effects of the city and county rules on fireworks.
The city is reminding residents to be careful with fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend.
“Fireworks can be very dangerous; use extreme caution, especially around children and pets. Please celebrate the holiday in a manner that is courteous to neighbors and pets,“ said a statement from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
According to the statement, residents are allowed to explode fireworks only on the following dates and times.
- June 21 through July 2, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- July 3 through 4, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- July 5 through 6, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition to time restrictions, there also places that you are not allowed to explode fireworks. Including city property without permission, private property without permission, and if it results in litter or waste on other people’s property.
The Police Department will enforce these ordinances. Persons violating these rules may receive tickets with a fine of $50-$500 and may have their fireworks confiscated.
Commercial or display fireworks must obtain a special permit from the City Council.
Rural residents follow state law on firework explosions.
A person shall not use or explode consumer fireworks on days other than June 1 through July 8. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4 and the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following July 4.
