IW men fall to William Penn

The Tigers put up a fight, but fell just short to the third ranked Statesman
MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan Men’s Basketball team was defeated by William Penn University in a Saturday matchup at home.
The Tigers were downed by the third ranked Statesmen, 104-92.
Iowa Wesleyan, for the first two minutes of the contest, controlled the pace. That was however short-lived, as William Penn began to regain control.
At the half, William Penn had accumulated a 52-35 lead.
At the start of the third quarter, the Tigers began to claw their way back into the game.
The Tigers gradually chipped away at the Statesmen’s lead, coming as close as six points with just under 10 minutes left in the contest, down 78-72.
Ultimately, William Penn was able to fend off the Tigers comeback, sealing their victory.
The Tigers outscored the Statesmen 57-52 in the second half.
For Iowa Wesleyan, it was a competitive competition against a highly ranked opponent.
Iowa Wesleyan’s freshmen showed out in the game.
Freshman Joey Brown led the Tigers in scoring with 24 points, four rebounds, five assists, and a steal.
Marvin Bateman, a senior, scored 15 points for the Tigers.
Freshmen Grant Swanson and Dylan Hurley rounded out Iowa Wesleyan’s scoring. Hurley finished with 14 points, and Swanson 13. Swanson also grabbed five rebounds.
The Tigers shot relatively well in the matchup, shooting 47% from the field and 42% from three.
