IWC enters new era, will offer two graduate courses

Iowa Wesleyan launches a new era of graduate education in the field of Strategic Leadership. On Nov. 11, Wesleyan took the first step toward offering graduate programs by approving the launch of two eight-week graduate courses. Organizational Communication and Leadership (COMM 555) will focus on the role of leaders and leadership in enacting organizational goals. Research Methods (SSCI 547) will examine the principles and practices research as applied to leadership studies.

?This is yet another historic moment for Iowa Wesleyan College. As southeast Iowa?s oldest four-year college, we have a responsibility to respond to the needs of our region. We believe advancing the effective practice of leadership through these and subsequent courses will help do that,? said President Steven Titus. ?Our intention is to be able to offer a graduate-level certificate in strategic leadership in 2014.?

Both courses will begin the week of Jan. 6, 2014, and will end the last week of February. The courses also will be offered beginning March 3 and ending during the last week of April. Organizational Communication and Leadership will meet eight Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus. Research Methods will be offered entirely online. They can be taken independently, together, or one-at-a-time. Both courses are designed for working professionals in business, healthcare, education and counseling who already hold a bachelor?s degree and who wish to move into post-baccalaureate studies. These graduate courses may be considered for transfer into an existing graduate degree program.
