Two Iowa Wesleyan football players received national recognition this week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
Quarterback Kevin McConnell was named Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Siena Heights. McConnell was 14-of-23 for 247 yards passing with two touchdowns while rushing for three touchdowns and 191 yards.
Also receiving honors this week was defensive lineman Richard Silva, who had 13 tackles against the Saints in IWC?s triple-overtime win.
But now the Tigers have begun preparing for their first road game of the season against Taylor University ? and they?re hoping to stay healthy.
One thing that plagued the Tigers in Saturday?s game against Siena Heights was injuries. Wide receiver Ridge Hobbs, a junior from New London, went down in the first half with a knee injury, causing him to miss the rest of the game. However, Head Coach Tom Parkevich said he will be ready to go for Saturday?s game.
Also injured last week was fullback Matt Vidales who left the game in the third quarter with a separated shoulder. ?Matt?s out for a couple weeks but we aren?t getting any reports that surgery will be needed at this point,? said Parkevich.
The Tigers kick off against the undefeated Taylor University Trojans Saturday at 1pm in Upland, Ind.
