Iowa Wesleyan College will hold three events to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
The impact of Sept. 11 on the Muslim community in the United States will be the topic of the forum program Thursday, September 8, at 11 a.m. The public is invited. The program will be held in the Chapel Auditorium.
Speakers will be Miriam Amer, executive director of the Iowa chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Dr. Ayman Amer, associate professor at Mount Mercy College and active member of the Islamic Center and inter-faith community of Cedar Rapids. The program will be moderated by Dr. Joy Lapp, assistant professor of religion at Iowa Wesleyan College.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, military personnel and first responders will be recognized at the Iowa Wesleyan College football game. Kick-off is at 1:00 p.m. at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. Active duty military personnel and veterans, law enforcement officers, fire fighters and all first responders will be acknowledged at halftime. Those with identification to verify their status and can attend the game at no charge.
A service of remembrance will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel Auditorium. The service will include music, readings and prayer. Pastor Kay Gates of the Richland and Hedrick United Methodist Churches will deliver the message.
