CEDAR RAPIDS ? The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball team was competitive throughout but took four losses to begin a new year at the Mt. Mercy University Zio Johnos Mustang Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Wesleyan posted its best performance on Saturday against Avila, winning the first two sets to take firm control of the match, only to see the Eagles come back to even the match at 2-2. and then win the tiebreaking fifth set to snuff out what would be the Tigers? best chance for a win on the weekend.
Senior Megan McVey led the young Tigers team with 47 kills over the four matches. Chelsey Taylor had 54 digs to pace the team and McVey added 44 digs. Alex Ramos had 106 assists.
The Tigers will open their home schedule on Thursday, Sept. 1, when they host Knox (Ill.) College for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. at Ruble Arena.
