MT. PLEASANT - Iowa Wesleyan University plans to reopen its campus for the Fall 2020 semester.
Though no concrete plans have been unveiled as to what steps the college is planning to take, the university said it plans to 'welcome students back to campus in a responsible way that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the entire community while offering the best education possible.”
In a news release sent out on Tuesday, IWU President Christine Plunkett said the university's 'senior leadership spent two full days in a planning retreat to address the many complex health and safety issues that come with reopening” and will open the campus in 'monitored phases throughout the summer” in preparation for fall.
'We will continue to make decisions that protect our community members as we follow guidelines issued by the CDC and other national, state, and regional health professionals.” Plunkett added, assuring the university's 'decision-making process will always include guidance and input from the CDC, regional and state public health professionals, Mount Pleasant community leaders and our community members.”
The university also will be working on contingency plans which may include 'adjustments to the academic schedule, a delayed starting date, a shortened semester, and distance learning options,” should plans to reopen be halted due to developments with the coronavirus pandemic.
