Izola Evans, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Izola Evans, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2015, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 22, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Rev. Evans was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Bagley, the daughter of George Thomas and Grace Della Laura (Wiedman) Smith. She graduated from Bagley High School. In Sept. 1941, she married Jack Melbourne Evans. He preceded her in death. She lived most of her life in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.
For over 25 years, Evans worked as a bookkeeper at Life Investors. She was of the Christian faith and had been a member of the Church of Christ in Bagley, and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and had many bird feeders. She was a sports enthusiast and knowledgeable with many players, coaches and statistics of college football and basketball teams. Her favorite college team was the Iowa Hawkeyes, and her favorite MLB team was the Chicago Cubs. Evans also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Evans is survived by one son, James (Connie) Evans, of Hampton; and two daughters, Gloria (Michael) Hertz, of Madeira Beach, Fla.; Sue Hoffmeister, of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Geraldine Lawson, of Thornton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; one son, Jack Evans, Jr.; one brother; and eight sisters.
