Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar confirmed today that a woman who was reported possibly shot and killed Saturday morning was employed at the Washington County Jail.
According to a press release from the Wapello County Sheriff?s Office, at about 5:23 a.m. Saturday, the office received a 911 report of an individual that had ?possibly been shot.? The incident happened in the 8700 block of Fox Hill Road southwest of Agency. The victim was identified as Lisa Techel, 23, of Agency. The release said that she is the daughter of a Wapello County deputy and was employed at the Washington County Jail. She was also a reserve deputy with the Wapello County Sheriff?s Office.
?If we could have cloned her and made 100 of her, we would have,? Dunbar said this morning. ?She was a great person and a mother-to-be. It is unfortunate. We will definitely miss her.?
Dunbar was contacted as he was in Wapello County to talk with members of the sheriff?s department there and to see Techel?s family.
The release said that an autopsy was conducted at the Iowa State Medical Examiner?s Office in Ankeny.
A death investigation is underway and autopsy results are pending.
