Seventeen members and guests of the James Harlan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met Saturday morning, Nov. 19, in Salem. Janet Mills organized and hosted the meeting.
The Lewelling Quaker Museum was their first stop. The Lewelling House, built in 1840, contains displays, photos, artifacts, and stories about the history of Salem, the Underground Railroad and the Lewelling family. Leading them on the tour through the house were LQM board members and volunteers, Jean Leeper, Cathy Helman, Rosie Kramer, Faye Heartsill, Martha Brown and DAR members, Pam Schinstock and Mary Savage.
They then visited the Salem Crew Library, where Friends of the Library president, Cathy Helman, showed them the features of this new building, including the children?s area and tree house, the genealogy area and the meeting room.
A luncheon buffet was served at the Century Bar and Grill, where they concluded the day with a short meeting. The group?s next gathering will be in Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 17.
