James is walking

Jamesiswalking.com is his website, and James DiGiovanni is indeed walking from his home in Queens, New York to San Diego, Calif. DiGiovanni left home May 12 and plans to be on the west coast by late October. ?I try to get in at least 25 miles a day,? he said, as he stopped at the local Walmart for supplies, and ran into Dennis and Pam Kajiura, a couple from Ottawa, Canada, who are in town visiting their son. When asked how many pairs of shoes he has worn out, the 24 year-old replied, ?This is my second pair. I hope I can do it with three.? His route will follow Highway 34 as far as it goes, somewhere around Denver, Colo. He sleeps outside most places, but ?I have yet to sleep outside in Iowa. People in Iowa have been very nice to me.? Some of those nice Iowans are Joe and Barb McLarney, where the young man spent the night Sunday. When asked why he is doing this, he said it was his way of seeing the country as he was born and raised in Queens.
