At the recent annual Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club Christmas Party, the club honored Jason Goody with the Workhorse of the Year Award.
Every year, one member is recognized for going above and beyond in their efforts within the various programs that the Kiwanis Club sponsors in the Mt. Pleasant area.
For many years, the Kiwanis Club has featured the program called, The Tree of Lights. Funds raised for this event, go to purchase warm clothing for needy children. Kiwanis members physically take the parents of the children shopping for warm coats, boots, snow pants, gloves, caps and scarfs. Of recent history, somewhere between $6,000 and $7,000 has been given to families in need for this project alone. This year, the Kiwanis set a new record of nearly $8,000 to be used for new clothing.
The greater majority of the funds come from members themselves donating to the project; however, there have been some funds coming in from generous donors outside of the club.
Jason Goody has been a member of the Tree of Lights committee for 17 years. He has been the driving chairman for the past eight years. Under his leadership, the amounts raised for the goodwill have increased greatly, and thus receiving the recognition for the Kiwanis Workhorse of the Year Award this year.
