The annual Fourth of July celebration hosted by the Fairfield Jaycees is set for Saturday evening at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Jaycee Heather Shaull said although the organization?s fundraising efforts fell short resulting in a budget only half as much as last year?s, and ?things did not fall into place,? the group will be hosting the Fourth of July event.
This year?s celebration, in addition to the fireworks display, will feature Jaycee member David Owen providing musical entertainment in the grandstand beginning about 9 p.m.
?We?re hoping he will be a good draw,? said Shaull. ?People know him.?
Owen is the Fairfield Middle School music teacher, she explained.
?Everywhere he goes, there are kids saying, ?Mr. Owen! Mr. Owen!? They really like him,? she said.
She added Owen also is gaining a reputation for his participation in the Fairfield Area Community Theater musical productions. He most recently played Adam in ?Children of Eden.?
According to Shaull people are welcome to park and bring their lawn chairs and blankets to sit in the carnival area of the fairgrounds, but no one will be allowed past the grandstand due to safety reasons.
Despite the smaller budget, the Jaycees are trying a couple of new firework effects this year, said Shaull.
?They are ground-display type stuff, so it?s a reason to come out to the fairgrounds to watch,? she added.
