FAIRFIELD - Jefferson County 4-H held its annual awards celebration Sunday, Feb. 28.
Jefferson County 4-H County Youth Coordinator Grace Davidson said 4-H normally meets with the Jefferson County Fair Board for a meal during its annual awards night, but it couldn't do that this year because of the pandemic. Nevertheless, 4-H organizers didn't want the year to pass without acknowledging the achievements of its members.
'It was a good event,” Davidson said. 'Everybody showed up, including the families.”
The ISU Extension Office still is under a mask mandate and must limit its occupancy, so that made things a bit different from normal. Each club had to sit apart from each other.
Davidson said 4-H members were given awards on their record books, which they keep from the time they're old enough to begin 4-H through their senior year of high school. For instance, if a 4-H'er is showing a cow, they would write down what their goal is for the cow, and after the fair, will write down whether they met that goal.
'They make their record books pretty and turn them into me and the 4-H Youth Committee,” Davidson said.
4-H members can get special awards for writing essays and being a 4-H mentor.
