FAIRFIELD – The Jefferson County Cattlemen’s Association donated about 70 pounds of canned beef to The Lord’s Cupboard on Thursday, June 1.
Members of the cattlemen’s association said this is something they do every year in recognition of May Beef Month. This beef was purchased from Peyton Greiner of Packwood Locker, and amounts to about 100 cans of beef.
Money to purchase the beef came from the cattlemen’s fundraising drives. Canned beef is an especially welcome sight at The Lord’s Cupboard, which has previously put out calls for more donated proteins, since those are not donated as much as other goods.
Cattlemen association’s member Hannah Peck said it feels good to see local beef producers make a difference in their community.
“When you’re looking for things in the community to be a part of, the important thing is they give back to the community they’re in,” she said. “A lot of businesses in this community support us, so we might as well make sure we are supporting everybody else.”
Cattlemen association’s member Adam Ledger said this donation is also an opportunity for the cattlemen to educate the public about beef. He said this donation is fulfilling the cattlemen’s mission statement to both promote beef and serve the community.
