FAIRFIELD - The Greater Jefferson County Fair has planned a full slate of events for this year's fair, complete with nightly grandstand acts and loads of free entertainment.
The fair will be the week of June 21-27. Jefferson County 4-H County youth coordinator Grace Davidson said the state fair organization has advised county fair boards to plan their 2021 fairs like in a normal year with all of the usual events. Then, if the pandemic still is a problem as the fair draws near, the county fair boards can make adjustments at that time.
'If our COVID numbers are not the best, we'll go to Plan B, but we're going to plan this like it's a normal fair,” Davidson said.
Davidson said 4-H and FFA members already purchased their livestock to take to the fair. Cattle were purchased last fall, while the youngsters acquired their sheep, goats and swine after Jan. 1.
Grandstand events
The grandstand events will occur every evening from Wednesday, June 23 through Sunday, June 27. Times for the events have not been announced.
Wednesday, June 23: Mutton busting.
Thursday, June 24: Dirt Drags.
Friday, June 25: Quad races with bike classes.
Saturday, June 26: Farm Class & Twin States Truck and Tractor Pull.
Sunday, June 27: Tractor and car show; Crash for Clunkers.
Free stage
The fair board announced that many of its popular free events will return for 2021. These events, along with the grandstand events, were canceled for the 2020 fair. The 2020 fair was limited to 4-H and FFA shows, and attendance was limited to exhibitors and family members. There was no carnival, and only a couple of vendors.
Wednesday, June 23: The Little Miss Contest, Queen Contest and Bill Riley Talent Show will return to the show arena.
Thursday, June 24: A band and disc jockey will perform (to be announced).
Friday, June 25: Pedal pull and hypnotist.
Saturday, June 26: Corn hole (bean bags) tournament.
Sunday, June 27: Friends Church will hold a church service; a Dutch oven cooking contest will be held, and the Jefferson County Cattlemen will host the open beef show.

The 2020 fair was pared back, with no carnival, grandstand events or kids' games, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jefferson County Fair Board is planning for a fully normal fair in 2021.
