FAIRFIELD – Jefferson County has put the finishing touches on the chip and seal roads that have generated so much feedback over the summer and fall.
The road that has received the most attention is Pleasant Plain Road, with multiple representatives of the business Cambridge Investment Research complaining about the quality of the chip and seal to the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors.
Jefferson County Engineer DeWayne Heintz told the supervisors Monday morning, Oct. 6 that the road had just been striped a few days earlier, and that the edge lines would be painted later that day. He also recommended returning the speed limit to its normal 55 mph after the supervisors agreed to lower it to 45 at the end of June to reduce thrown rocks damaging windshields.
Motorists who travel the road will notice that it’s smoother and darker than it was a month ago, a result of contractor LL Pelling being asked to return to lay smaller chips and a “fog seal.”
Heintz said the county’s road projects are winding down for the season, and the only thing left is patchwork around Batavia.
