ABINGDON – A male subject was injured in a fire that fully engulfed a home in rural Jefferson County Thursday afternoon, Feb. 26.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that the communications center had received a 911 call at 2:25 p.m. that day about a residential fire in the 1100 block of Brookville Road in the small town of Abingdon, about 20 miles northwest of Fairfield and 10 miles southwest of Packwood.
Ten minutes after the initial call, a deputy arrived on the scene and discovered the residence fully engulfed in flames. The deputy advised that a male subject inside the home had made it out, but had suffered injuries from the fire.
Fire departments from Fairfield and Packwood arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames. The residence is considered a total loss.
The male subject was taken by Jefferson County Ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center, where he was then life-flighted by MedForce to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment of his injuries.
