Jefferson County Emergency Management, Jefferson County and all Cities in the county are working to update the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Previous occurrences of hazards such as drought, expansive soils, extreme heat, flood, severe storms, sinkholes, tornado, and winter weather events are analyzed. We are developing recommended actions that can be taken to improve safety and mitigate the effects of these hazards throughout the County. Other hazards of concern are Animal crop or plant disease, Human epidemics, Dam failure, or HazMat incidents.
A Public Survey is available at your local City Hall and Jefferson County Courthouse and at the office of Jefferson County Emergency Management.
We would like anyone in Jefferson County who is interested in Hazard Mitigation to send us comments about problems your community has from these hazards or solutions that would make the County or City safer. Comments and opinions are needed by July 15, 2024.
Thank you to all who participate. If you have any questions or comments, contact Gail Thomas, Planner at grthomasplans@gmail.com or call 641-233-8942.
