FAIRFIELD - The Jefferson County Supervisors agreed Monday to forming an agreement with Lee County to cover the county's environment health needs when the Jefferson County Environmental Health director is absent. Jefferson County Environmental Health Director Dan Miller informed the board that he discovered Lee County, home to Fort Madison and Keokuk, was willing to fulfill the role as Jefferson County's backup. Though Miller answers to the Jefferson County Board of Health, the supervisors were involved in this decision because they must approve agreements with other jurisdictions.
The supervisors also discussed waste disposal with a representative of Connelly Recycling in Fairfield. The supervisors had received comments from residents who had attempted to reach the business via phone on its posted number but were sent to a line that nobody answered and did not have voicemail. The representative from Connelly said the business would fix that by setting up a voicemail.
After the meeting, the supervisors visited the county-owned building on Maple Street where Juvenile Court officer Troy Seeley works. Supervisor Dee Sandquist said they wanted to gauge if there was space for the building to store records since the courthouse is running out of storage space.
At the supervisors' next meeting on March 29, they will decide whether to renew their mask mandate for the public places on county property. The resolution that started the mask mandate expires on April 1.
