FAIRFIELD — The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors approved a new payment schedule for employees in the Secondary Roads Department during its meeting Monday.
Jefferson County Engineer DeWayne Heintz requested a change to the step increase to help retain employees. Under the change, employees in the department will reach the maximum salary after four years instead of eight years.
Heintz requested approval from the supervisors to begin searching for three new employees. The department is expecting two employees to retire and to fill an open mechanic’s position. The department is not planning to add employees.
The supervisors continued their discussion of creating a new human resources position for the county. The position would be part-time, about eight to 10 hours per week. The supervisors are still crafting a job description for it, and no action was taken.
The board discussed nuisance properties and mentioned that one property owner has requested an appeal for Sept. 13 after the county cleared his property. The supervisors agreed to hear the appeal.
