Jenny’s journey: Day 4

Washington resident Jenny Morgan is celebrating her 40th birthday by riding RAGBRAI for the first time. Morgan is providing The Washington Evening Journal with her firsthand account of her ride.

Wednesday, July 24

Today 88.8 miles was on my Fitbit watch when we ended, with 3,252 feet of climb and there was lots of good hills. Most of them were early in the day when our legs were fresh, so that was nice. We had great weather. The UV was high, we were feeling a little crispy. We put sunscreen on a lot, but it was pretty UV-y out.

So we started out in Indianola, and went down through Chariton and ended up here in Centerville. There was a loop you could do to get your total of 120 for the day, but we forwent that because no need to add any extra miles around Lake Rathbun.

It was beautiful views, lots of hills, but really pretty. Couple bad things for today, we saw a guy wreck in front of us and we saw a guy getting CPR along the side of the road, so that was no fun. I was pretty happy to get home and see my family when I was done. We all take for granted, that, and we were very happy to make it.

The big day is out of the way and now we sit at about 60 miles every day here on out. So, this was the big one and we were glad to get it out of the way so now we can enjoy the rest of the week.
