Jerry Mills

Jerry Mills, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away, Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the Henry County Health Center.

A visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. that afternoon. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20th at the Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Born March 4, 1936 in rural Mt. Pleasant, IA, Jerry Duane was the son of Chester and Leora (Riley) Mills. He attended Maple Grove Country School. On June 28, 1959, he married Janet Marie Adkisson at the Sharon Presbyterian Church in Lee County. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1954-1963.

Jerry was a lifelong farmer. He loved to garden and sold his fresh produce. An avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed the sport when his grandsons came along. Jerry and Janet loved to travel and have been on numerous trips. He was a member of Salem Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Jim (Toi) Mills of Mt Pleasant and their children, Whit (Lori) Mills, Kayla (Ryan) Utter and Levi Mills; a son, Jon (Shirley) Mills of Salem, IA and their children, Alison, Brynn and Colin Mills; a son, Jarren (Angela) Mills of Ettrick, WI and their children, AJ, Ryan, Mitchell, Rachael and Stephanie Mills; a son, Jerald Mills of Mt. Pleasant; and a daughter, Julie (Mike) Alaniz of Wellington, FL and their children, Brittany and Michael Alaniz. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Eugene Mills of Burlington, IA and Dean (Sue) Mills of Columbia, MO; and nieces and nephews, Susan Mills White, Chris Mills, Rhonda Woodsmall, Jason Mills and Jesse Mills.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents; and a brother, Marvin ?Leo? Mills.
