John Thomas Stephens, 77, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Parkview Care Center. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Nov. 23, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Wotherspoon officiating. Burial will be in Abington Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Stephens was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Cave City, Ky., the son of Richard and Nettie Riley Stephens. He married Margaret Benn Oct. 31, 1990.
He was in the U.S. Army for 18 years, serving in Vietnam, Korea, Alaska and Hawaii.
He also worked on the Alaska Pipe Line.
He attended the First Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and was an avid trap shooter.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stephens of Fairfield; four children, John Thomas Stephens Jr., Richard Stephens and spouse Diana of Idaho, Cynthia Santoro of California and James Stephens and spouse Diane of Florida; two stepchildren, Clester Graham and Jamison Graham, both of Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and three siblings, Wayne Kollmeyer of Michigan and Jerry Kollmeyer and Florence Taylor, both of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Stephens.
