The Fairfield Police Department has a new member.
Officer Jason W. Jones was sworn in by Mayor Ed Malloy during the Fairfield City Council meeting Monday evening. His first day of duty was Thursday.
Jones was hired to replace officer Kris Metcalf, whose resignation from the department was effective Wednesday.
Jones said being a police officer is something he has wanted to do since childhood. He served two years in both Seymour and Bloomfield before joining the Fairfield force.
He accepted the job in Fairfield to be closer to family, as he is originally from Ottumwa.
