Arrests
An officer reported being out checking on a wanted subject, Thursday night at North Harrison Street in Brighton. Steven Eric McClain, 50, of Brighton, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for fourth-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct –abusive epithet/threatening gestures. Bond was $1,300 cash only.
A caller Thursday night at 335th Street in Brighton reported that a subject hit their vehicle with their truck and kicked the side of their vehicle. Two Washington County officers responded. Daniel Lee Zielstorf, 42, of Brighton, was arrested on a charge of violation of a no-contact order, and a Washington County warrant for domestic abuse assault injury or mental illness first offense, and obstruction of emergency communication. Bond was $300 cash only on the obstruction of emergency communication, and no bond on the domestic abuse assault.
Traffic accident
A caller Thursday afternoon at Highway 92 in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. An officer responded. Information was exchanged.
Traffic other
A caller early Friday morning at Highway 218 in Ainsworth reported a car in the ditch on the southbound side between Mile Markers 65 and 66. Two officers responded and were unable to locate the vehicle. A second call came in about 20 minutes later, with a location in the 2300 block of Highway 218.Deputies arrived. The vehicle was unoccupied. The vehicle was towed by and to Moore's.
Disabled vehicles
A caller Thursday morning at Harding Avenue in Ainsworth reported a gray Saturn with Keokuk County plates, sitting about one block north of Mather Street. An officer responded. Moore's responded and towed the vehicle. Keokuk County checked residence of registered owner and was unable to make contact. A male subject who had been associated with the vehicle was advised where he could pick up his vehicle.
Fire calls
A skid loader was reported on fire, Thursday afternoon at 146th Boulevard in Brighton. It was not near any structures, and no one was inside. Brighton Fire Department was dispatched, and the fire was extinguished.
A caller Thursday night at A Avenue in Kalona reported that there was a lot of black smoke coming from the nearby trailer court in Kalona. It was unknown what was on fire. It was a controlled burn, yard waste, and the fire was out.
A caller Thursday night at A Avenue in Kalona reported that someone was doing burning without a fire pit, and it was spreading. Kalona Fire responded and extinguished the fire.
Animal complaint
A caller Thursday morning reported hitting a deer west of Larch Avenue on 110th Street in Kalona, on the south side of the road. The deer was in the ditch, injured but not deceased. An officer responded. The deer was deceased upon the officer's arrival.
A caller Thursday morning at East Third Street in Washington reported a cat bite to his right hand and fingers. An officer responded. The cat was not current on shots and was to be quarantined at Town & Country. A report will be filed.
A caller Thursday morning at Highway 218 in Ainsworth reported locating a baby pig on Highway 218 Exit 66 northbound. A Washington County officer was in the area and transported the animal to a nearby farm.
A caller Thursday night at North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a loose Rottweiler at North Fifth Avenue, and requested an officer. An officer was unable to locate the dog running loose. The caller called back a second time to say that the dog damaged his grandmother's fence and was then in the caller's backyard. Two officers responded. A written warning was issued to dog owner Cory Jarrett Brackin, 32, of Washington, for allowing a dog to run at large. The fence was bent back, but no damage had occurred.
A caller Friday morning at 10th Avenue in Wellman reported a dog behind the residence and was unsure where it had come from. An officer was advised. About a half hour later, at 6:13 a.m., the caller advised that the officer could disregard.
Assault
A caller Friday morning at South Third Avenue in Washington reported being assaulted by her boyfriend. He left the residence to go to work, and she wanted to press charges. She did not want an ambulance. Two officers responded.
Shoplifting
A caller Thursday night at Highway 92 in Washington reported that they had a shoplifter the previous day, and requested to speak with an officer. A report will be filed.
Suspicious activity
A caller Thursday morning at East Seventh Street in Washington had a found item he would like to give to an officer. An officer responded. A report will be filed.
Welfare check
A caller Thursday night at Highway 92 in Washington requested a welfare check on a subject having an allergic reaction but refusing help. Two officers and a Washington County ambulance responded. The ambulance transported the subject to the Washington County Hospital, arriving at 9:22 p.m.
