Arrests
Johnson County reported being out with a wanted subject out of Washington County. Brian Edward Benson, 44, of Wellman, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on an original charge of possession of controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Bond was $10,000 cash only; pickup/200-mile radius. A Washington County officer transported the subject from Johnson County Jail to the Washington County Jail. Another officer served the warrant and paper service. The entry was cleared from the system.
An officer reported being at a traffic stop north of the Skunk River Bridge on Highway 1 in Brighton, Saturday morning. Earl Leroy Hoback III, 38, of Brighton, was arrested on charges of driving while barred and passing contrary to highway markings.
Toledo Police Department reported being out with a subject wanted on a Washington County warrant, Saturday night at West High Street in Toledo. Heather Christine Adams, 39, of Tama, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for possession of controlled substance – marijuana second offense, and possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine second offense, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was $4,600 cash only.
An officer reported that he would be out with a vehicle that pulled over at East Second Street in Washington, Saturday night. Jose Luis Garcia Juarez, 34, of Washington, was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated first offense, no valid driver's license, and open container.
An officer reported being out with a subject at a business, Saturday night at East Washington Street in Brighton. David Sebastian Riness, 25, of Tama, was arrested on charges of possession of controlled substance – marijuana third offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Traffic other
An officer reported being out with a vehicle with a flat tire on the square, Saturday afternoon at East Washington Street and South Iowa Avenue in Washington. The officer chalked the vehicle.
A male subject was reported riding wheelies up and down Seventh Avenue in Wellman, Saturday evening. An officer responded and located the male subject with a parked red four-wheeler who admitted to riding the vehicle on the street. A written warning was issued to Trevor John Sanders, 27, of Letts, for ATV violation.
Disabled vehicles
An officer advised being out with a vehicle along the roadway, possibly disabled, Saturday night at 170th Street in Wellman. The operator advised that he owned the vehicle and was having problems with the weight of the laminate flooring he was transporting, and was moving the contents around so the weight would not rub the tires on the car frame.
An unoccupied disabled vehicle was reported, Saturday night at Highway 22 in Wellman.
Fire calls
Johnson County requested the Kalona Fire Department to respond to a smoke alarm going off, early Sunday morning at 540th Street S.W. in Kalona. The Fire Department was dispatched but disregarded before going en route.
Animal complaint
A caller Saturday morning at 245th Street in Ainsworth reported that a black Lab with an orange collar always ran in front of his car. He had hit it once before. He requested that a deputy speak with the owners. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone at the residence.
A caller Saturday morning at North Iowa Avenue reported two loose dogs in the street, and they were aggressive. One appeared to be a Lab, and the other had longer black fur and was possibly a German shepherd mix. An officer responded. A verbal warning was given to the dog owner.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Seventh Street in Washington reported that a German shepherd dog came at her aggressively while she was delivering the mail. She did pepper-spray it. She advised that this was not the first time a mail carrier had had issues with the dog. An officer responded. The dog did not leave the property. No citation was issued. The incident was documented.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported several sheep running loose in the ditch just east of the jail. Two officers responded to help corral the sheep back onto their property. The owner was made aware of the situation.
A caller Saturday afternoon at North 12th Avenue in Washington reported a cow and a calf out in the ditch. Dispatch made contact with the owner. The cows were returned to the pasture.
Disorderly conduct
A caller Saturday morning at West Chester reported their 11-year-old grandson, over whom they had guardianship, was not and was being disrespectful. He was also in possession of a tobacco product. An officer responded. A message was left with the DHS worker. The incident was documented.
DP & Q
A caller Saturday night at West Main Street in Brighton reported loud music coming from a garage at the residence. An officer responded and advised that the music would be turned down with no further issues. About 1 ½ hours later, after another complaint, a Conservation officer stopped back at the site. The subject was again advised to turn the music down.
Drug/narcotics violation
An officer reported having pending charges per DCI Lab results on a subject being arrested, Saturday morning at Highway 1 in Brighton. A report will be filed.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Saturday night at Sixth Avenue in Wellman reported that a male subject at the residence was intoxicated and causing problems with his wife and child. Two officers responded. The female party and the child had left for the evening.
A caller early Sunday morning at South Avenue C in Washington reported that her son had stolen a van from the Car Doctor parking lot, and was possibly en route to Ottumwa. Four officers responded. The subject called back, advising that her son returned home. The vehicle was located by an officer. Moore's responded to tow the vehicle.
All other offenses
A caller Saturday morning at East Fountain Street and Angle Street in Brighton reported a violation of a no-contact order via a third-party contact. An officer spoke with the caller. Documentation was made.
