Arrests
An officer reported being out at a residence checking on a wanted subject, Wednesday afternoon at North Railroad Street in Ainsworth. Donna Mae Svatos, 58, of Ainsworth, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for second-degree fraudulent practice (Iowa Workforce Development case). Bond was $5,000 cash only.
An officer reported being out checking on a wanted subject, Wednesday afternoon at Old White Way in Ainsworth. Ann Elizabeth Johnson, 51, of Ainsworth, was arrested on two Washington County warrants: one warrant, for failure to appear pretrial conference on original charges of possession of controlled substance first offense, and possession of controlled substance – marijuana first offense, with bond set at $1,000 cash only; and one warrant for failure to appear pretrial conference on original charge of possession of controlled substance – marijuana first offense, with bond set at $1,000 cash only. Total bond was $2,000 cash only.
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Wednesday afternoon at East Madison Street in Washington. Brandon James Ferdig, 21, of Washington, was arrested on a charge of driving under suspension, second offense.
Henry County reported that they had a warrant for a subject who was in the Washington County Jail, Thursday morning at Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Brandon James Ferdig, 21, of Washington, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for probation violation on original charge of third-degree theft. Bond was $10,000 cash or surety. Locate and detainer were placed. Extradition arrangements will be made.
Traffic accident
An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle while removing a deer from the roadway, early Thursday morning at Highway 218 in Riverside. The vehicle hit the deer and had flashers on, but no one was around. The vehicle was off the roadway and was added to the system. The owner of the vehicle called in a short while later, advising that her daughter had gone to Kum & Go to wait for help, but they were back at the vehicle location. Air bags were deployed and the windshield was shattered. An officer responded, and the subjects were driving the vehicle home.
Traffic other
A caller Wednesday morning at E Avenue and Fourth Street in Kalona reported that a moving truck was parked in the roadway on Highway 22 at Fourth Street. He was facing west with no flashers or triangles. A caller requested that a deputy speak with him. An officer spoke with the subject, who put out triangles.
A caller Wednesday night at First Avenue in Wellman received a report of someone driving a dune buggy on the Wellman Golf Course.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with a white enclosed trailer, Wednesday afternoon at Riverside Road and 220th Street in Washington. The trailer was tagged and added to the system. It had flat tires on the driver side.
A deputy reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Wednesday night at 270th Street and Highway 1 in Washington. The officer advised that someone was coming to pick up the vehicle owner.
Fire calls
Johnson County requested mutual aid from the Riverside Fire Department for a structure fire, Wednesday night at North Devoe Street in Lone Tree. Riverside Fire responded and assisted.
Animal complaint
A caller Wednesday night at Lexington Boulevard and Highway 1 in Washington reported two yellow Labs running around on the roadway. Two officers responded but were unable to locate the animals. The dogs were later located and taken to the dog pound.
Burglary
A caller Wednesday morning at South Avenue C in Washington reported that a company laptop (Acer) and cellphone (iPhone 8 in a blue OtterBox case) were taken from his vehicle sometime the previous night. There were pry marks on the door. An officer responded. Documentation was made for the time being. The caller was going to attempt to locate the serial numbers. The caller advised Wednesday afternoon that someone had located the phone.
DP & Q
A caller Wednesday night at A Avenue in Kalona reported hearing fireworks inside of the city limits of Kalona. An officer responded and was unable to locate the fireworks.
A caller Wednesday night at South 12th Avenue in Washington reported fireworks east of the area. An officer responded.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Wednesday afternoon at North Avenue D in Washington reported a subject who kept harassing him each time they saw each other. The caller was unsure who it was. An officer responded and was going to attempt to locate the other party. Documentation was made.
A caller Wednesday afternoon at East Third Street in Riverside reported that his ex-girlfriend was harassing him. Two officers responded and advised the subject to block her phone number and cease contact.
A caller Wednesday night at South Marion Avenue in Washington reported that a subject had taken pictures of her juvenile children and claimed they didn't pay for their food. An officer responded and spoke to the caller. The officer was unable to locate the subject who took the pictures.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Wednesday night at 130th Street in Wellman reported her spouse had been missing for several hours, since 5 p.m. An officer spoke to the subject. An Attempt to Locate message was sent to surrounding counties. The caller was unsure of where the subject would be.
Suspicious activity
A caller early Thursday morning at North Avenue B in Washington reported that she saw someone on the property and there were headlights in the driveway. Two officers responded. There was a gathering in the neighborhood, and they believed it was a subject leaving after there was a disagreement.
Trespass
A caller Wednesday afternoon at Second Street in Wellman reported that their neighbors were taking pictures of her daughters in the pool. Two officers responded and spoke to all the parties involved.
Welfare check
A caller Wednesday afternoon at Highway 92 in Washington requested a welfare check on a dog inside a blue Town & Country van in the parking lot. An officer responded and was unable to locate the dog or the van.
All other theft
Brandon James Ferdig, 21, of Washington, was charged with forgery, Wednesday, in reference to an incident that occurred Monday morning at East Washington Street in Washington.
A caller Wednesday morning at Highway 22 in Riverside reported that his wife picked up two processed steers from a business the previous day, and they did not include any fillets or expensive cuts of meat which they had paid for. An officer responded. The business owner was going to make it right with the caller. Documentation was made.
All other offenses
A caller Wednesday morning at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a light blue mountain bike in their bushes. An officer transported the bicycle to the bike shed. It was a blue and silver NEXT Power Climber and had a visible serial number.
A caller Wednesday night at South Fourth Avenue and East Madison Street in Washington reported a young child in the street with no supervision. An officer responded and was unable to locate any children.
