Then-Mayor of Washington Harold Johnson (left) receives a portrait of George Washington from County Bicentennial Committee Chair Jim Frier (right) July 4, 1976. The committee presented a portrait to the county as well, which still hangs in the courthouse. Organizers also unveiled a time capsule and a bust of George Washington the same day.
