Traffic accident
A caller early Friday morning at Highway 218 and 282nd Street in Crawfordsville reported that there was a box truck in the median north of Mile Marker 64 on Highway 218. It looked as if the subject just drove off into the median. The driver was inside the truck. An officer responded. The subject drove toward the median to avoid being sideswiped by another vehicle. Earl's responded and pulled the vehicle out, at the driver's request.
Traffic other
A caller Thursday morning at Seventh Avenue and Eighth Street in Wellman advised that two vehicles were parked in the wrong spots in Wellman. An officer responded and issued a warning to one of the vehicles for parking adjacent to the curb. The other vehicle was removed by the owner.
A caller Thursday morning at South Marion Avenue in Washington reported a garbage truck that had been parked facing the wrong way since Tuesday, and it was emitting a foul odor. An officer spoke to the business personnel, who advised that the vehicle was broken-down and a mechanic was coming that day (Thursday) to repair it. They were advised to move it to the other side of the road if it couldn't be repaired that day.
A caller Thursday evening at East Washington Street in Washington reported that a camper was parked partially in the roadway at East Washington Street. An officer spoke with the owner of the camper, who was going to have it moved that night or the next day. He had also notified Brighton City Hall.
Fire calls
A caller Thursday morning at East Main Street in Washington reported that three fire alarms were going off upstairs. There was no visible smoke or unusual smell. The Washington Fire Department responded, as well as two officers. There were no problems at the residence.
A caller Thursday afternoon at North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that the neighbor was burning furniture in his backyard. An officer responded, and the fire was almost out. The subject was advised of the city ordinance.
A caller Thursday afternoon at Highway 1 and Fir Avenue in Brighton reported that her car, a green 1996 Camry, was overheated and smoking. There were no visible flames. The caller also had severe asthma and could not be in the heat very long. Brighton QRS, Brighton Fire and an ambulance responded. The ambulance was disregarded. There was no medical transport.
An officer reported being out with a subject burning shingles, Thursday night at North Jefferson Street in Brighton. The subject was given verbal warning. The subject put the fire out.
Animal complaint
A caller Thursday morning at North Fourth Avenue in Washington requested a welfare check on a dog after seeing a male subject pick it up, drag it into the yard and throw it inside a fence. He was also yelling at it. An officer responded and was unable to locate the dog.
A caller Thursday morning at Highway 1 in Washington reported a dog inside a parked car trying to get out of the windows. An officer responded and checked both lots, and was unable to locate the dog.
An officer received a report at the Police Department of a beagle running around and barking, Thursday afternoon at South Second Avenue in Washington. The officer responded to the residence. The dog had accidentally gotten out. The owner was advised of the complaint.
Drug/narcotics violation
A caller Thursday afternoon at North Van Buren Street in Brighton reported locating possible drug items. An officer responded. A report will be filed. Charges are pending per DCI Lab results.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Thursday morning at Highway 1 in Washington requested to speak with an offer in reference to harassment. An officer spoke with both parties. A female subject was given a warning for criminal harassment. The incident was documented.
Suspicious activity
A caller Thursday night at E Avenue in Kalona reported a suspicious vehicle in the church parking lot. An officer responded. Everything was OK there. They would be staying in the parking lot for the night.
Trespass
A caller Thursday night at East Third Street in Washington reported that three juveniles were trespassing at Riverside Pallet, and requested an officer. An officer spoke with the three juveniles, and they were advised to stay off the property.
Welfare check
A caller Thursday morning at North Railroad Street in Ainsworth requested a welfare check. An officer responded and was unable to make contact. The officer responded with the key holder and was unable to locate the subject. Later the subject was accounted for and was OK.
A caller Thursday night at East Taylor Street in Washington requested a welfare check on a family member. He was not at the residence. A teletype message was sent over the southeast Iowa area for a welfare check if located.
All other theft
A caller Thursday afternoon at East Polk Street in Washington reported that a resident had a blanket, a lap throw, stolen. It was described as either brown and fuzzy, or brown and tan, or brown with orange and black circles. The caller requested documentation. An officer was advised.
