Arrests
An officer reported being out with a subject wanted out of Washington County, Monday night at West Main Street in Brighton. A conservation officer transported the subject to the Washington County Jail. Austin Patrick Gellerstedt, 24, of Brighton, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for controlled substance violation and possession of controlled substance – marijuana, second offense. The conservation officer also arrested the subject for driving while suspended, sixth offense. The warrant was cleared from the system.
Jefferson County reported being out with a subject wanted out of Washington County, Monday night at Grimes Avenue in Fairfield. Colton Scott Keyes, 28, of Fairfield, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on original charges of third-degree sex abuse and lascivious acts with a child. Bond was $10,000 cash only. A Washington County officer transported the subject from Jefferson County Jail to the Washington County Jail. The officer served the warrant and paper service.
Traffic accident
A caller Monday morning at Highway 1 S.W. in Kalona requested Kalona First Responders for a single-vehicle accident with unknown injuries. The vehicle was in the ditch. Kalona Fire and Kalona QRS responded. A Johnson County deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.
A caller Monday night at Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue in Wellman reported being in a traffic accident with no injuries, in Wellman. Two officers responded. The damage was under $1,500, and information was exchanged. An officer cited a juvenile subject for unsafe turning.
Traffic other
A caller Monday night at Johnson Iowa Road reported that their fuel tank fell off their vehicle. An officer responded and assisted the subject. The registered owner had Moore's coming to tow the vehicle, and most of the gas leaked into the ditch. Johnson County was advised of the spill. The Wellman Fire Department also responded and cleaned up the spill.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with an unoccupied disabled vehicle, early Tuesday morning at Quince Avenue and Highway 92 in Washington.
Animal complaint
A caller Monday evening at Birch Avenue in Keota reported that a stray dog bit a 2-year-old on the face while on the Kewash Trail outside of Keota in Washington County. The patient was in the emergency room. Documentation was made. Officers were unable to locate the stray dog.
Curfew/loitering/vagrancy
An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the park after hours, early Tuesday morning at North Avenue H and West Second Street in Washington. Documentation was made.
Fraud
A caller Monday afternoon at Fifth Street in Kalona reported that money had been taken from his account without any authorization. An officer spoke with the caller, the bank and Mediacom. The caller's information was used to open an account. The bank was sending paperwork to Mediacom. Documentation was made.
Public service/contacts
A caller Monday night at South Eighth Avenue in Washington advised that she was having trouble getting her medications opened to take them. An officer responded and assisted the subject.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Monday afternoon at C Avenue and Third Street in Kalona reported that a young girl who didn't know her way home was in the area and requested a deputy. The young girl was given a ride home.
A caller Monday night at Parkside Estates Road in Washington reported a juvenile who ran away from the residence. The juvenile was located at Walmart, and his father came and picked him up. The juvenile was cited into court for curfew.
Suspicious activity
A caller Monday night at East Fourth Street in Washington reported that two youngsters were climbing the buildings at Ideal Concrete. Two officers responded and were unable to locate the juveniles.
A caller Monday night at East Street in West Chester reported three juveniles on bicycles in her driveway. An officer responded and was unable to locate the juveniles.
A caller Monday night at First Avenue and South Sixth Street in Kalona reported two subjects fighting nearby. One subject took off in a white van. An officer responded and gave the female a ride to her residence. The officer was unable to locate the male subject.
Trespass
A caller Monday morning at East Second Street in Washington reported that there was a subject in her garage throwing items around. The caller requested an officer. An officer spoke with the male subject, who advised that he had never been evicted from the residence. He was organizing some of his belongings and planned to move out on July 1.
Vandalism
A caller Monday afternoon at North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported that the back window on his vehicle was broken out sometime during the previous night. The caller had no suspects. An officer responded. A report will be filed.
A caller Monday evening at West Adams Street in Washington reported a green bicycle that had been sitting around for three days, and some stones at the cemetery were broken. An officer responded and transported the bike to the bike shed and spoke to the subject about the stones. Documentation was made.
Welfare check
A caller Monday morning at Highway 1 in Brighton reported that a female was standing in the ditch north of Brighton on Highway 1, and believed she was on something. The caller requested that someone check on her. A conservation officer checked on her, and she was walking to a friend's house.
All other theft
A caller Monday afternoon at Highway 78 in Brighton reported the theft of items from his residence at about 5 a.m. that day. A female and a male were seen in a black four-door car. The caller was missing a car battery. The information was documented.
A caller Monday night at South Marion Avenue in Washington reported theft of a bicycle locked up to a pole. The bicycle was a blue Dawes Lightning DLX with a Schwinn bike rack on the back, LED lights and an odometer. The report was documented.
All other offenses
A caller Monday morning at East Ninth Street in Washington reported having issues with the neighbors and requested to speak with an officer. An officer spoke with the caller. The report was documented.
A caller Monday evening at South Mechanic Street in Brighton requested that a deputy stop by regarding his neighbor's looking in the windows at his daughter. An officer stopped by and viewed a video showing the neighbor taking pictures of the property line. The incident was documented.
A caller Monday night at East Madison Street in Washington reported that his ex-wife had stolen his Visa card. An officer spoke with the caller, who stated that he was unsure exactly where it was. It was not stolen.
