Arrests
A deputy reported being out with a subject wanted out of Washington County, Wednesday night at Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Joshua John Lang, 29, of Ainsworth, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for fourth-degree theft. Bond was $1,000 cash only.
Traffic accident
A caller Wednesday morning at 14th Street and E Avenue in Kalona reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. Vehicle operators were Maryellen Haifley, of Ainsworth, and Tegan Thompson, of Iowa City. Damage to vehicles amounted to more than $1,500. A state accident report was filed. A citation was issued to Haifley for failure to stop at an assured and clear distance. A van was towed by Moore's at the owner's request.
Traffic other
A caller Wednesday afternoon at Highway 218 and 130th Street in Riverside reported that her windshield was broken and she could not tell what hit it. She heard what sounded like a shot. It happened near the Riverside exit. She was driving a company car, a Hyundai Accent. She continued southbound. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate anything suspicious. The information was documented.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with an occupied disabled vehicle, Wednesday morning at Riverside Road in Washington. The subject had help coming.
Animal complaint
A caller early Thursday morning at Nutmeg Avenue in Kalona reported a horse in the roadway. An officer responded and was unable to locate the horse.
Civil standby
A caller Wednesday morning at 135th Street in Kalona reported that her daughter gave her dog away without permission. The caller requested a civil standby to retrieve the dog, as she had proof of ownership. The subject refused to turn the dog over. The caller was advised that it was a civil issue and she would have to take them to court.
Welfare check
A caller Wednesday night at Larch Avenue in Washington requested a welfare check on his mother. An officer responded and located the subject. She was OK.
A caller early Thursday morning at East Madison Street in Brighton reported that their son took their grandfather's vehicle without permission. He might be en route to Washington. Five Washington County officers all responded. A Henry County deputy located the vehicle and the juvenile on Highway 78 west of Coppock. Three Washington County officers and a Jefferson County deputy responded to that location. The vehicle was left at the traffic stop location. The family picked up the juvenile.
All other theft
A caller Wednesday afternoon at East First Street in Riverside reported that her daughter's cellphone was missing, and believed a customer may have accidentally taken it. The locating app showed its being in Lone Tree. It was a Samsung Galaxy S9 in a white case. An officer responded. The caller located the phone.
