Arrests
A caller Friday morning at West Main Street in Brighton reported finding a male subject inside her enclosed front porch that morning. The door latch was broken. He drank some of her water, unplugged her deep freeze and was trying on her grandson's shoes. He was talking about people chasing him before leaving on foot, taking a crescent wrench from her porch. The caller also stated that she saw the same person at the Dollar Store in Brighton and he was acting strange. An officer agreed to check the area. About an hour later, at 8:53 a.m., a second caller at Farmer Street in Brighton reported a homeless person staying in the laundry building. Three officers responded. Christopher John Morrison Sr., of West Branch, was arrested on a charge of failure to appear pretrial conference on original charge of fourth-degree theft. Bond was $1,000 cash or surety. A report will be filed. The crescent wrench was returned to the original caller. An officer transported the subject to the Washington County Jail, arriving at 9:57 a.m.
A caller Friday afternoon at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported a subject was at the jail to turn themselves in on a Washington County warrant. Alysha Kay Jenkins, 27, of Ainsworth, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for trial on compulsory education (truancy) violation, first offense. Bond was $300 cash only. An officer responded and served the warrant.
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop at Pioneer Street and East River Street in Riverside early Saturday morning. An additional officer also responded. Jacob Duane Stransky, 36, of Riverside, was arrested on a charge of OWI, first offense. An officer transported the subject's wife to the location of the stop to retrieve the vehicle.
Traffic accident
A caller Friday morning at Highway 218 in Riverside reported a traffic accident on Highway 218 by Mile Marker 80. There were no injuries. One vehicle was in the ditch. An officer responded. Vehicle operators were Richard Alan Kleinau, of Washington, and Elizabeth Anne Reuscher, of Washington. Damages exceeded $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed. Reuscher was cited for failure to yield to half a roadway.
A caller Friday morning at South Avenue B and West Van Buren Street in Washington reported witnessing a car run a stop sign and hit another vehicle and continue on. Both vehicles were then stopped near South Avenue C and Van Buren Street. Vehicle operators were Linda Ann Boulton, of Crawfordsville, and Marcella Margaret Reed, of Washington. Boulton was cited for failure to obey stop sign. Damages exceeded $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed.
A caller Friday afternoon at 220th Street and Riverside Road in Washington reported being rear-ended on Thursday. There was minor damage, and both parties exchanged information. The insurance company was requesting documentation. Vehicle operators were Mark Rodenborn, of Washington, and Michelle Hinrichsen, of Washington. An officer was advised for documentation.
A caller Saturday morning at Violet Avenue and Old White Way in Ainsworth reported that there was a car-vs.-deer accident on County Road G52. The deer was still in the roadway. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the deer.
Traffic stop serious
An officer reported stopping a vehicle, Friday evening at Lincoln Street in Ainsworth. There were no plates on the vehicle. Polito Carcia Jr., 40, of Ainsworth, was cited for driving under suspension.
Disabled vehicles
A disabled vehicle was reported, Friday night at Wayland Road in Washington. The vehicle was parked in the roadway and was being moved.
An officer reported a disabled vehicle with flashers on, Friday night at Orange Avenue and Highway 22 in Kalona. The officer assisted in changing a tire.
Fire calls
Johnson County reported possible fire, Friday morning at Cosgrove Road S.W. in Kalona. There were flames showing. The caller was unsure if it was a building or a pile of shrubs. It was across from Yoder Auction, or east of Cosgrove Road S.W. Kalona Fire arrived and advised all other responding units to disregard, as this was a controlled burn.
Jefferson County reported a barn fire, Friday afternoon at Nutmeg Avenue in Brighton. The dwelling was on the north side, but they did not believe anyone was at the residence. Brighton Fire responded, and Richland Fire responded as mutual aid. The fire was extinguished.
A caller Friday night at 520th Street in Kalona reported farm equipment on fire close to a barn, and provided entry directions to the scene. Kalona Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.
Animal complaint
A caller Friday evening at East Main Street in Washington reported that a white terrier type dog was loose and in their yard, and it was aggressive toward the caller's dog. An officer responded and was unable to make contact with the dog owner. The officer left a card for them to call in.
Curfew/loitering/vagrancy
An officer reported being out with a juvenile in Sunset Park, early Saturday morning at 915 West Main Street in Washington. The officer transported the juvenile to his residence. He will be cited for curfew violation.
An officer reported being out with a juvenile walking on South Iowa Avenue in Washington, early Saturday morning. The officer transported the juvenile to the Emergency Room.
DP & Q
A caller Friday night at Second Street in Wellman reported that the people to the west of the trailer court were shooting of fireworks. They were very loud. The caller requested a deputy. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the subjects.
A caller Friday night at McCreedy Drive and South Second Avenue in Washington reported that someone was shooting off fireworks near the intersection. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the problem.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Friday night at Ninth Avenue in Wellman reported that her daughter was having a verbal argument with her boyfriend and his parents, and the caller requested a deputy. An officer spoke with all parties. Parents of the male left, as well as the caller. The female was packing her belongings to leave.
A caller Friday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported a young child at the casino who could not find his parents. The caller requested assistance from a deputy. Documentation was made. They were going to review video to see if the youngsters were left alone.
A caller Friday night at Seventh Avenue in Wellman reported a domestic disturbance in the block. The subjects were having a disagreement. There was no problem.
Fraud
A caller Friday morning at Fifth Street in Kalona reported another customer fraud in the amount of $1,000. An officer made contact with the bank. They were able to stop the funds so the customer was not out any money. Documentation was made.
A caller Friday afternoon at Fifth Street in Kalona reported receiving counterfeit bills. An officer responded for documentation purposes.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Friday afternoon at Washington Street in Ainsworth requested that an officer check on a missing juvenile. An officer responded. The juvenile was not at the residence.
A caller Friday afternoon at Fifth Street in Wellman reported missing a 13-year-old granddaughter. The caller provided clothing description of the juvenile, who had last been seen in the Wellman area going for a walk around the block. The juvenile returned on her own about an hour later, at 4:18 p.m.
A caller Friday night at Parkside Estates Road in Washington reported that his juvenile son had left the house again without permission. Officers were advised. The juvenile was located in front of the Safety Center and was given a ride home.
Suspicious activity
A caller Friday night at Vine Avenue in Crawfordsville reported a suspicious vehicle parked north of Crawfordsville on Vine Avenue. Two officers responded and were unable to locate the vehicle.
Welfare check
A caller Friday evening at East Van Buren Street in Washington requested a welfare check on a 7-year-old female and her father. The caller had given a ride to them about 3:30 p.m., two hours earlier, and the male was intoxicated. An officer spoke with the grandmother and the little girl, who was fine.
All other theft
A caller Friday afternoon at West Madison Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $45.40, about 15 minutes earlier. The caller provided the license plate number. Dispatch did an attempt-to-locate through Monroe County.
All other offenses
A caller Friday morning at West Railroad Street in Brighton reported that a tree was blocking a roadway and a wire was hanging down low. An officer responded. Alliant Energy was advised of power line down in a yard, and a city worker had placed barricades.
A caller Friday afternoon at Highway 92 in Washington reported that a silver Dodge Grand Caravan with no license plates was in the parking lot with small children inside in car seats and no adult. A short time later, the vehicle had left the parking lot.
